Veterans Activity Report
We encourage our members to donate their time in visits to VA Hospitals or other approved VA Volunteer Services activities. Other donations of clothing, certain convalescent aids, and other items of need are also appreciated.
Recognition for those Chapters providing exemplary service to veterans is provided by a number of programs, such as the USS Stark Memorial Award. This award memorializes those brave men and women who continue to stand at the forefront to preserve the freedoms our patriotic ancestors fought so long and hard to achieve. Its purpose is to recognize outstanding chapters for their participation in Veterans Committee activities.
Individual members are also recognized, with the William C. Westmoreland Award. This award is given each year in recognition to an outstanding SAR Veterans Volunteer in the state of Georgia..
A Service to Veterans Medal is awarded for members who contribute 5,000 Stark points. A bronze oak leaf cluster is awarded for additional multiples of 3,000 Stark points; after 5 bronze oak leaf clusters have been presented, a silver oak leaf cluster will replace the 5 previous bronze clusters.
We also provide participation in Special Projects, such as the Blue Star Banner Salute and the WW II Memorial (2004). These were partnership programs between the American Legion and the SAR at a National level.
