Grave Marking of Patriot Jeremiah Lumsden

Kelly Family Cemetery

Jasper County, GA

Long before the actual grave marking ceremony preparations

must be made, here George Thurmond is installing the SAR

symbol and cleaning up around the tombstone.

Paul Prescott shared the cleanup work.

A job well done and the workers breath a sigh of relief.

LTC Donald Gunn kneels beside the Lumsden memorial during

the grave marking ceremony.

Led by Color Guard Commander Paul Prescott a large number of members of the

Color Guard from various chapters march to start the service

Piedmont Chapter Color Guard members pose with LTC Gunn.

On behalf of the Lumsden family a special thanks to each and every one of you for your time and effort in honoring our ancestor.  Several members of my family were moved to tears by Saturday's presentation and throughout the remainder of the weekend they repeatedly told me to extend my thanks to all of you.  They were all anxious to take home
their videos and photos to share with parents, cousins, children and grandchildren that couldn't attend on Saturday.  I had one serious inquiry about SAR membership and expect I'll have others.  You've created a lot of excitement and pride in my family for our heritage and for that I'll always be grateful.
Respectfully,
LTC Donald Gunn

the Revolutionary War uniform and demonstrated the musket rifle used by soldiers during

the war. Paul and Bob also discussed and told the Pack about flag etiquette including the

proper retirement of a flag and the raising and lowering of the US Flag. One of the members

Chapter Meeting

Linda Schultz, representing District 1 of the Fulton County School Board, was today's speaker. In both her speech and the following question and answer segment, she displayed an encyclopedic mastery of her topic in discussing the School Board's structure, function and goals. Our membership responded enthusiastically and demonstrated their interest with numerous questions.

Vice President Bob Shaw presented Linda with a Speaker's Certificate in gratitude for her presentation.

Newell Malcolm (Mike) Jones, his two sons, James Malcolm Ward Jones and Philip Andrew Jones, were inducted into membership in our Chapter by President Jim McIntire. Mike's two grandsons, Ian Hunter Jones and Philip Andrew Jones were inducted into youth membership. As these were the first new members inducted by Jim, he took particular pleasure from the fact that he and Mike are third cousins and share their Patriot Ancestor, James McIntire.

Paul Simpson was presented with the Certificate of Distinguished Service that would have been presented at tthe Annual Meeting if Paul had not been off celebrating 60 years of marital bliss with his wife Bev.

Walt Woliver was presented a Certificate of Appreciation for his years of service in arranging proclamations by the various municipalities within the Chapter's service area and his willingness to respond to any request to support the Chapter.

Jim presented a check for $1,000 to Bob obtained by Registrar Bob Sapp from Wal Mart. At the time of the meeting, Registrar Sapp was attending the Commemoration of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse with the Color Guard.
