Murray Lynn is a successful Atlanta business man who grew up in an oppressive and stifling environment in Bilke, Hungary during the time of the Nazi occupation. The reign of terror began on a spring evening in 1942 when the Hungarian secret police banged on the Lynn’s door and arrested his father, a businessman and leader in the Jewish Community. A few days later it was discovered that his father and other community leaders had been executed. The family was terrified and they lived day to day in the shadow of despair and death. In 1944, Murray and his remaining family members were taken from their home and shipped in a cattle car to Auschwitz where all were murdered except for Murray who was forced into a slave labor job. After Auschwitz was liberated, he was rescued by the Dr. Rabbi Schoenfeld, who brought him to England. Eventually he made his way to New York, where he was able to complete his bachelor’s degree at City University of New York and Master of Business Administration at New York University. In 1956, Murray moved to Atlanta where he became a successful businessman. Today, he and his wife Sonia have three grown children and they continue to live in Atlanta.
Murray witnessed first hard the atrocities of Auschwitz and for fifty years he was unable to speak of his experience. Now he tells his story so that it will never be forgotten and so that those who did not experience that terrible time will understand the consequences of intolerance.
